There's No Place Like Home

For evangelists who are called to travel the world regularly for a living, it is so important to have a home base to come back to after long, grueling ministry trips. Home can bring emotional stability, restoration and joy in the ministry.
A huge part of our longevity in the evangelistic ministry comes from an important sense of balance between a full life and a faithful ministry. Developing a sense of "Home" can dramatically add to this sense of well being, which will in turn build our ministry.
I would recommend to any evangelist to base their ministry as near to family and friends as possible. Don't move across the country for a church staff position - look for one nearby (Unless of course, God directs you differently). When you are out of town every month ministering, the last thing you need to do is come home to a new church or a bunch of strangers whom you are still needing to befriend.
Home constitutes alot of things. Specifically, when we are in town, we should focus on developing good friendships, planting ourselves in a supportive local church, traditions and rituals and refreshing our own soul.
1. Home is a Place of Friendships - The biggest constitution of home is of course, the people we love. While home we should take advantage of the time by getting together with good friends and family who know who we really are. These friends serve as catalysts of humility and groundedness where people know who we really are and love us anyways.
2. Home is a Local Church We Serve - We should all do our best to not only attend, but serve a local church when in town. Look for a church that benefits you spiritually, connects with your family relationally and supports your ministry dreams. All three of these things are important. My wife and I attend Emmanuel Christian Center in Minneapolis, MN and absolutely love our church. I have attended for 7 years and Michelle her whole life - I pray we will call Emmanuel home for the rest of our lives! Your local church can be a place of reporting what God has done and celebrating his faithfulness in the ministry. It can also be a place of support, where you can call someone your Pastor. This support is so important for evangelists who are constantly looked to as a spiritual support for others.
3. Home is a Place of Traditions - Traditions and rituals are so important to a healthy sense of well being. Drinking coffee at your local Starbucks, visiting your favorite restaurant on dates with your spouse or hangouts with your friends. Find these traditions in your lives and families and enjoy them.
4. Home is a Place of Spiritual Growth - Hopefully while home, you find extra time with the Lord. Refresh your own soul and grow in the wisdom of God. Read good books and be inspired in your own walk with the Lord.
May you often feel the pure joy of making it safely home.
